Shoutouts & Gratitude: Fall 2025
By Amanda Lang • October 26, 2025
Shoutout to Leonard, who volunteers at the front desk twice a week and will do any task he has time for, no matter how repetitive. "He is awesome, awesome, awesome!" says CSS staff member Pujita.
A huge thank you to Burrito Brigade, St. Mary’s Episcopal, and the Interfaith Food Hub for providing meals to clients living in our Nightingale Safe Spot Community. These amazing organizations provide meals free of charge several days a week.
Duck is a professional naturalist who has visited our region’s waterfalls over 30 times in the past year. Duck brings his years of experience as an Outward Bound guide for our CSS field trip program, and has volunteered to lead many more waterfall field trips in the future!
Thank you to HIV Alliance, who installed and maintains a biohazards container at the Access Center, making it easier to dispose safely of medical syringes, insulin, and other materials. It's illegal in Oregon to dispose of syringes and other medical sharps in the garbage due to the dangers posed to waste handlers.
Steadfast support is a big deal in an ever-changing world. We want to give a shoutout to First Christian Church, who is a consistent provider of winter supplies for CSS, helping clients keep warm as the temperatures dip down.
This fall, Alice Blankenship, violinist with the Eugene Symphony and the Oregon Mozart Players, brought her sound to the unhoused at the Access Center. Thank you for the gift of beautiful music!
When we experienced record heat this summer, the Access Center became a cooling center with ice-cold water, misters, and other cooling resources. We couldn't have made this happen without the amazing help of Lane County and St. Vincent de Paul!
We appreciate Ernest Packaging employees for their generous donation of towels and washcloths for clients to use at the Access Center. Each September—or Givember, as they call it—Ernest Packaging dedicates the entire month to giving back to those in need.
Big thank you to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for giving our clients an opportunity to go fishing this fall! They provided supplies and offered a day of legal fishing without a license. 18 people joined in on the field trip!
Huge gratitude to Shift Community Cycles for hosting two bike repair clinics at the Access Center in 2025. They're a local nonprofit that's all about making cycling accessible for everyone in our community. After attending a clinic in October, two people signed up for the CSS waitlist!
