Community Supported Shelters values simplicity and sustainability. We are proud to announce that our South Eugene recycling program has been a great success. If you didn’t know, you can drop off bottles and cans at the south entrance to the Nightingale community at our donation station.
Sabrina, who is the on-site lead for our recycling program, says, “I think the bottles and cans we get donated are an awesome thing we have going on here, because it has been very useful for the community.” As part of our recycling program, community members of Nightingale process bags of bottles and cans that are recycled at our local bottle drop-off. So far in 2026, we have produced and processed over 200 bags of bottles and cans, earning $1,527.
This total contribution to the Nightingale Fund is equivalent to the purchase of all the new heaters we bought for each community member's Conestoga Huts this fiscal year. These donations make a difference for our community, and the success of our bottle drop program at Nightingale is thanks to donations from our South Eugene neighbors and volunteers. Zech shares, “I think that it's awesome that the neighbors are doing that. It shows that the name of CSS isn't just a thought but really is a Community coming together, and it really is beautiful.”
